About

I work as a scientific translator, Spanish to English. Trabajo como traductora y revisora para trabajos científicos. Para presupuestos y horarios, contactame: c.esmahan[arroba]gmail.com

And I love birds.

I am a writer, a mother of 4 adults and former science and Spanish teacher.

So this website covers a bit of all of that.

As for my writing, my first three novels were written based on the experiences I had as a teacher in an American School in northern Spain. Bueno (semi-finalist for the Elixir Press Fiction Award), Sinco (finalist for the International Latino Book Award), and Brujas, my first three novels, published in 2014.

My fourth novel, The Laptev Virus, won the 2015 Indie Excellence award for Medical Thriller and has sold more than 10,000 copies since it was published in 2015. The Spanish edition of this novel, El Virus Laptev is now also available.

The Cobra Effect is my 5th novel and it is about plastic pollution in the ocean, a subject I care deeply about. My goal is to both teach and entertain with these two hard-science fiction novels.

My 6th novel is A Cricket of a Girl. It is historical fiction, set in El Salvador in the 1950s and ’60s, just prior to the onset of the tragic civil war. It is about two women, one American and one Salvadoran, who, though separated by culture, economic standing, and language, form a strong friendship in the midst of the turmoil they face. My father was from El Salvador and I lived there for a few years as a child, so it was important for me to write this novel.

My books are available at any major book store or on Amazon, as ebooks, audio version (The Laptev Virus) or paperback formats.

I read “The Laptev Virus” yesterday and have been recommending it via social media as a mini-course in virology as well as a good story! It’s so timely, and I have been thinking all day about viruses!!

I was at the Travis Country book club meeting and got to meet you. Hope you and your family are well – Gail

    1. Wow, Michelle, thanks so much for your comments and I’m so excited for you, getting to take a trip to El Salvador this year! The capital city has been undergoing a lot of changes and improvements with the mayor they have now, so it’s an exciting time to visit! I hope you have a fantastic visit and that my book helps you get into a bit of the history and enjoy the scenery a bit too. It’s based on a true story–several true stories, I should say.
When you finish reading the novel, I would really appreciate it if you could rate it for me–Amazon helps put out the word about the book once I reach at least 50 ratings. 🙂 Mucho gusto!

Hi Christy! We sat next to each other at the Ruffled Feathers Book Club last month. You told me about your book, the Laptev Virus, and I just had a chance to read it. It was great! I am hosting my neighborhood book group in mid to late June and would love to have you come to discuss the book with us. Would that possibly work for you? We typically meet monthly on Thursday night at 7 pm in Southwest Austin (Travis Country which is in East Oak Hill if that helps). Would any of these dates work: June 15, June 22, or June 29? I look forward to hearing from you soon! Warm wishes, Beth Arnold

    1. Wonderful to hear, Beth, I’m delighted that you enjoyed it! I’ve just sent you an email! Please let me know if you don’t receive it. Best, Christy
